Plumpire

Drag your troops. Conquer the whole map.

Every land on the map is a little round character with a flag, and every one of them is training troops. Your job is to send yours across the border before the rival nations send theirs. Plumpire is a free real-time conquest game that runs in your browser, on a computer or a phone, with no download and no sign-up. A match is short, the rules fit in one sentence, and the map keeps changing under your fingers.

How to play

  1. Press Play. You start with one or two lands, and your rivals start with theirs. Lands nobody owns hold a small garrison that you can take.
  2. Every land trains troops over time. The bigger your territory, the faster they grow, and each land can only hold so many.
  3. Drag from one of your lands to a neighbour to send most of its troops there. Drag across several of your lands in one stroke to send all of them at once.
  4. When the troops arrive, the battle front moves across the map tile by tile. If your army is bigger than the defence, the land turns to your color and starts training for you.
  5. Spend the gold your lands produce. From the second level on, tap or click one of your lands to build a city, and later a fort, a port or a tower. Use the powers you unlock along the way.
  6. Win by taking every rival land. Lose all your lands and the match is over. Quick wins earn up to three stars on each level.

Controls

Computer

  • Mouse drag: press on one of your lands and drag to a neighbour to send troops. Drag over several lands to send them all.
  • Click a land, then click a target: the same attack without dragging.
  • Click one of your lands: open the build menu.
  • 1, 2, 3: use the Rally, Freeze and Shield powers once they are unlocked.
  • P, Esc or Space: pause.
  • M: mute the sound.

Touch screen

  • Drag your finger from one of your lands to a neighbour to send troops.
  • Tap a land, then tap a target, if you prefer tapping to dragging.
  • Tap one of your lands: open the build menu.
  • Power buttons on the screen: Rally, Freeze and Shield.
  • Buttons at the top: pause and sound. Hold the phone sideways.

Tips

  • Attack neutral lands early. They hold a small garrison, they cost you almost nothing, and every land you add makes all your troops grow faster.
  • Do not empty a border land. A land with no troops left is easy prey, so keep some defenders where a rival can reach you.
  • A city makes a land grow faster and hold more troops, so build it on a safe land far from the front. A fort makes defenders count double, so it belongs on the border.
  • Ports need a coast. A port sends boats across the sea, which is the only way to reach an island that has no land border with you.
  • Towers shoot at enemy troops that come close. Put them where the rival is most likely to march, and the attack loses strength before it even arrives.
  • Save a power for the right moment. Rally speeds up your training, Freeze stops enemy lands and armies for a few seconds, and Shield makes one of your lands defend three times as well.
  • Speed gives stars. If a level is hard, finish it once to open the next one, then come back for the quick three-star run.

About Plumpire

Plumpire is a short strategy game about one thing: getting your troops to the right place before the other side does. There are no unit types to learn and no long menus. You drag, the armies march, and the front line creeps across the map until one color is left.

There are two campaigns, 26 levels in total. The Brazil campaign has 18 levels and uses a map of the 27 federative units of Brazil, where it is states against states, with no politics, only a friendly rivalry. Each state is a round character wearing a simplified flag made of plain shapes, so it is easy to tell them apart. You start in one region, such as the South, and the campaign grows until the last levels cover the whole country. The Fruit Isles campaign has 8 levels on islands that are generated for you and are home to four made-up fruit nations: Blueberria, Tomatia, Mangolia and Plumbia. You always play as Blueberria.

Your rivals begin sleepy and slowly get sharper. The later levels bring cities, forts, ports and towers, and three powers that unlock one by one. Your progress, your stars and your best score are saved in your browser. Plumpire is made for short sessions: a level takes a few minutes, and you can stop whenever you like.

Frequently asked questions

Is Plumpire free?

Yes. It is free to play, with nothing to download and no account to create.

Does the game save my progress?

Yes. Your stars, your unlocked levels and your best score are saved in your browser on this device. If you clear the site data, the progress is cleared too.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Dragging with a finger works as well as with a mouse, and there are on-screen buttons for the powers, pause and sound. Hold the device in landscape mode, because the game asks you to rotate it if you do not.

What is the difference between the two campaigns?

The Brazil campaign is played on a map of the Brazilian states, each with a simplified flag. The Fruit Isles campaign takes place on made-up islands with four fruit nations, so it has no real places at all. The rules are the same in both, and you can switch between them on the levels screen.

How do I win a level?

Take every land that belongs to your rivals. If the rivals take all of yours first, you lose and can try again. You can also earn up to three stars on a level by finishing it quickly.
