Nightbolt

Hold the street. Survive seven nights.

You stand alone at the end of a dark street. Cartoon zombies shuffle out of the fog and walk straight toward you, and all you can do is aim, shoot and keep your nerve. Nightbolt is a free first-person zombie shooter that runs in your browser, on a computer or a phone, with no download and no sign-up.

How to play

  1. Press Start. Each night lasts about a minute and a half, and the zombies always come from the far end of the street.
  2. Aim and shoot before they reach you. Every zombie that gets close bites, and your health does not refill in the middle of a night.
  3. Go for the head. The top fifth of a zombie counts as its head, and a headshot does far more damage and pays extra money.
  4. Survive the night to open the shop. Spend your money on a shotgun, an SMG, more ammo, a medkit, damage and reload upgrades, or an automatic turret that you can upgrade three times.
  5. Get through all seven nights. The last one only ends when the boss goes down.

Controls

Computer

Tips

  • Your aim sways and the gun kicks back. Fire in short bursts and let the crosshair settle before the next shot.
  • Fast zombies are fragile and slow ones are tough. Take the runners down first, then work on the brutes while they are still far away.
  • The pistol has unlimited ammo, so you are never helpless. The shotgun and the SMG use ammo you buy, so keep a few packs in reserve.
  • Health carries over from one night to the next with only a small recovery, so a medkit is often worth more than a new gun.
  • Reload while the street is empty, not when a zombie is already in your face.
  • Win stars even when you lose: every night you survive earns permanent upgrades that make the next run easier.

About Nightbolt

Nightbolt is a short, tense shooter about one thing: standing your ground. You never move. The street comes to you, the aim wobbles, the gun kicks, and every second you spend lining up a shot is a second a zombie spends getting closer.

The zombies come in four kinds. Walkers are slow and steady, runners are quick and fragile, brutes soak up a lot of damage and hit hard, and on the seventh night a huge boss walks down the street. The art is a light cartoon: dark red splashes and no gore, so it stays fun instead of grim.

Between nights you shop with the money the zombies drop. After each run you also earn stars that buy permanent upgrades, such as more health, a bit of starting cash, a steadier aim and a bigger bounty on every kill. Your best score and your best night are saved in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Is Nightbolt free?

Yes. It is free to play, with nothing to download and no account to create.

Does the game save my progress?

Yes. Your best score, your best night and your permanent upgrades are saved in your browser on this device. If you clear the site data, the progress is cleared too.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes. On a touch screen you tap to aim and shoot, and there are on-screen buttons for reloading and switching weapons. Landscape mode gives you more room.

How do I beat the boss on night 7?

Arrive with a strong weapon and plenty of ammo, and keep your health high with a medkit. The boss is slow, so shoot it from a distance, aim for the head and let a turret help with the smaller zombies around it.

Is it too violent?

No. The style is light and cartoonish, with dark red splashes but no gore and no dismemberment.
